Torbay nursery celebrates its Outstanding Ofsted rating
The achievement gained by the Mama Bear's Day Nursery and Pre-School in Midvale Road means that all four Mama Bear's nurseries in the Torbay area are now classed as outstanding, the highest rating awarded by the standards agency.
The nursery was praised for its staff, management, rigorous approach to planning, observation and assessment and its safeguarding among other things and was described as inspirational by the visiting inspector.
Mama Bear's nurseries at Long Road, Barewell Road and Queen Elizabeth Drive have also been granted the prestigious title after coming out on top at each respective inspection.
Ofsted inspector Katherine Lamb observed the Midvale Road nursery and said: "Children are exceptionally well motivated, happy and eager to learn. Management and staff constantly work to refine their practise in order to enhance outcomes for children.
"Children are given an excellent range of opportunities to play and explore in all areas of learning. Activities are motivating and develop children's self-esteem and confidence very effectively. Children's needs are extremely well met through excellently planned, interesting and challenging experiences with inspirational planning and assessment processes.
"Snack and lunchtimes are enjoyable social occasions when staff encourage good hygiene routines, good manners and lots of conversation. Children and healthy and energetic and spend a large part of their day outdoors.
"Meticulous attention to safeguarding means that children are protected from harm and feel extremely safe. All staff are trained in child protection and demonstrate an excellent awareness of safeguarding issues."
The inspection included Katherine observing activities throughout all age groups and in the garden as well as reviewing a range of documents and policies, including children's observation and assessment records. The inspector also took account of the views of parents and carers spoken to on the day.
Mama Bear's regional manager Kerry Sturmey said: "It is a fantastic achievement to have all our Torbay nurseries classed as outstanding and goes to show how our commitment to care pays off across all settings.
"We took over the Midvale Road nursery in November last year and have transformed it from a satisfactory setting to an outstanding nursery in a matter of months.
"It is a credit to our staff to achieve such positive comments from the inspector and I'm extremely proud of them for continuing to provide the best care and for always looking to improve on what we do.
"As always outstanding and affordable childcare is our main priority as well as getting children ready for their next big step into school life."
Mama Bear's Day Nursery is a family-run business founded in 2002. The Day Nurseries are aimed at providing children with their first vital level of education to give them a head-start when they start at primary school.
Inspector Katherine Lamb continued: "A key strength of the provision is the rigorous approach to planning, observation and assessment. Staff also seek information from parents each term to inform their care and support. The nursery has rigorous systems for self-evaluation, with plans for continuous improvement high on the agenda.
"The management have extremely high expectations and set very high standards in professional development. Staff are highly experienced, well qualified, enthusiastic and their morale is excellent."
