Newton Abbot man arrested on suspicion of attempted murder following incident in Keyberry Road this morning

A 24-year-old man from Newton Abbot has been arrested on suspicion of attempted murder, dangerous driving and driving under the influence of alcohol/drugs following an incident in Keyberry Road this morning (July 6).

The incident happened at about 7.15am. Witnesses at the scene alleged that the driver of a white Vauxhall van drove at a pedestrian – a 47-year-old man from Paignton - and then got out of his vehicle and assaulted him.

The victim was taken to Torbay Hospital where he is being treated for facial lacerations and a suspected fractured hand.

The Newton Abbot man remains at Torquay Custody Centre awaiting interview.

The road remains closed at this time while investigations continue.

    UPDATE: Shane Briers, aged 24, from Newton Abbot has been charged with grievous bodily harm with intent and dangerous driving. He is due to appear at Torquay Magistrates Court this morning.
