THE FESTIVE SEASON kicked off in Newton Abbot at the weekend as Father Christmas took a break from his busy schedule to meet children in his ready-made grotto at St Leonard's Clock Tower.

He was joined in the town centre by the Salvation Army singing carols in Courtenay Street, Christmas market stalls throughout the town centre and even a special performance from Dartmoor's Grimspound Border Morris Group.

Father Christmas will be at the Clock Tower on Saturday mornings and Wednesday evenings throughout December. Entry is free, with each child having the opportunity to chat with Santa and receive a small bag of sweets. Voluntary contributions will go towards the Mayor's Charity, which this year is Cancer Research UK.
