Work to replace traffic signals at Penn Inn Roundabout in Newton Abbot is due to start on Monday 5 September.

The scheme, which will replace the signals at the Newton Abbot and Torquay approaches to Penn Inn and the junction of Keyberry Road and Torquay Road, is scheduled to take seven weeks.

The majority of the work will be carried out off of the road, but where lane closures are required, work will be completed overnight to minimise any delays to traffic.

Councillor Stuart Hughes said: "The existing traffic signal equipment is being replaced because it has reached the end of its life. Motorists won't notice any difference with the lights, but the signals will be brighter and easier to see. The additional benefit is that they are more efficient to run, saving around 70% of the power and therefore reducing costs."

The new traffic signal equipment will be installed and commissioned prior to switching off the existing equipment, minimising the downtime of the traffic signals.

Couldn't this be done a little further into autumn? Make a little more sense perhaps.
