VIDEO: Does anyone else have fond memories of stock car racing at Newton Abbot Racecourse?

I came across this video on Youtube:
-
Rare video footage of hot rod racing at Newton Abbot
It broadcasts the Hot Rod British Championships, held in 1983, at Newton Abbot Racecourse. It reminded me of those memorable Wednesday nights and shows what a great arena the racecourse was, so small yet so intimate. (I believe it was actually a re-use of the old grey hound track).
It's a shame that this motor sport stopped… it was so exciting. I especially recall the banger car racing being crazy. The venue also used to host a great night of entertainment on Bon Fire night.
Does anyone have any information about why it stopped? Or does anyone have any particular memories to share…

ReportI think I only went once when I was young. But I can remember my ears ringing for days after. It was great fun though.
