The next concert put on by the Newton Abbot and District Society of Arts will be on Friday, January 15 and will showcase Jack Maguire ‘The Magic of the Violin’ and pianist Barbara Henvest.
Sponsored by Harold Michelmore, Solicitors, the event will be held at Stover School, Newton Abbot, starting at 7.30pm.
Jack Maguire has led a many varied orchestral and soloist musical life. He has been leader of the Royal Ballet Orchestra, co-leader of the Bournemouth Symphony Orchestra, a BBC recitalist, soloist with the London Haydn Orchestra, soloist for Royal Ballet Covent Garden Royal galas, and soloist with the Bournemouth Sinfonietta. He also directs his own ensemble, Stromenti performing popular classics and baroque. As a soloist he performs accessible violin repertoire with a nostalgic look back to the days of Fritz Kreisler. He introduces the music himself and what he can’t look up on the internet he makes up, he says!
His violin is a Giuseppe Marconcini once played by Paganini.
Barbara Henvest is the BSO's orchestral pianist.
Barbara studied piano accompaniment at the Royal College of Music. She has been the principal keyboard player with the Bournemouth Symphony Orchestra for nearly thirty years. Her varied life includes recitals, repetiteur work with opera singers and accompanying choirs and instrumentalists. She also plays the trombone for fun!
