My husband andI are moving to Newton Abbot in a couple of months, due to his work.
We are looking to rent a one bedroom property that will accept a dog. Also we would like some information on the area in general, preferably from "a local" instead of all the usual blurb they print for "the holiday makers!" We want the warts and all version.
We are also interested in what the nightlife and what sorts of groups are about.
Any information will greatfully recieved.
Thanks (in anticipation!)

I think you will really like Newton Abbot. The town itself has much better shopping than Torquay and is really nice and friendly. There is a great department store - Austins, and Asda is right in the town centre, plus you have the out of town shopping area out by the Racecourse with the likes of Halfords, Brantano, B&Q, Homebase and Tescos. Then of course there is Trago Mills - well can't possibly explain what that is - you have to go there and see it (website trago.co.uk) You'll either love it or loath it.
Best part about Newton Abbot is that it is between the sea and Dartmoor, so really easy to get everywhere. To get the most of the area you need to be a walker. The countryside is amazing round here.
Nightlife - I'll leave that to someone else to tell you, but there is plenty going on in Teignmouth, Torquay and Exeter once you have exhausted the hot spots (or should I say 'spot') of Newton Abbot. There is a cinema in the town, but I like the Barn Cinema at Dartington, or if you like something a little more arty there is a film club in Teignmouth.
Don't know what sort of groups you are interested in - but - come on people let's get some Groups posted on newtonabbotpeople.

Which are the best local newspapers to find about accommodation to let in Newton Abbot, and could any body recomend a good newsagents where I could get them to post me a copy, just give me a name and address and I will get in touch. I am curently in Ilfracombe, north devon,so anywhere thats got an Asda will be blinding. It took 11 years of campaigning by the locals to get a Tesco, and then they stuck it 3 miles out of the town centre!!! Ihave heard of the famous Trago mills, they organise coach trips fromhere to it, so I guess it must be pretty big. I am a dog owner so I shall probably be getting plenty more exercise if the countryside is as good as you say, all we have round here is a couple of small beaches that you're not allowed to take a dog onto for part of the year. Ineed to lose some weight anyway!
Thanks for replying to me and you're right, lets get some more people on here, be proud of your town and promote it!

The newspapers in Newton Abbot are Mid Devon Advertiser (middevonadvertiser.co.uk) which is weekly, and Herald Express (thisissouthdevon.co.uk) which is daily. You can find a list of newsagents on newtonabbot people tinyurl.com/ln7mf5 There are loads of places to walk your dog round here, but beaches are very restricted in the summer - although you can walk dogs on part of Dawlish Warren. I would suggest you visit both the Tourism Office and the Library when you get here as both have lots of useful information.
