Kingsteignton has been officially a town for nearly a year now. Has the change been positive? Has being a town made much of a difference?

Whatever you call it - it is still JUST a dormitory of Newton Abbot.

Haven't really noticed much difference myself. To be honest I quite liked it when Kingsteignton was said to be the largest village in England. At least that meant something.

Historically speaking the major part of modern Newton Abbot (what was formerly Highweek parish) is just a colony of Kingsteignton and did not get its full  independence until 1865. Sir William Pole wrote that Tingwicke, Newton Bushell and Bradlegh are parcell of the parish of Kingstington. Newts In Habits is just an upstart medieval new town that imagines its got a race course. How sad for the only claim to fame for a place is a facility that is not even within its own boundaries. However, I would give its town centre credit for being the top of of the charity shop league. As more shops close a charity shop opens. There is more retail floor area in Kingsteignton (thanks to the warehouse type shops) than in Newton Abbot town centre.

I like it Nizzletrout. Yeah it must be annoying for Kingsteignton locals that Newton Abbot racecourse is not in fact in Newton Abbot. The big Tesco's (opposite) again is always billed as being from Newton Abbot! I know a certain Mr Walters tried to change this too (but to no avail... I thought that becomming a town might change this but apparently not.

We all know he is performing at a misnamed venue, but where will the stage be ......Kingsteignton or Teigngrace?
The postal address is Newton Road KINGSTEIGNTON as is Mr Cohen's grocery shop opposite!

Perhaps if intheknow1 went to the lay-by opposite Tescos he would see a boundary marker showing just where the parish or now town boundary runs through. So part of the Racecourse and Tesco are within the boundary of Newton Abbot. When the next beating of the bounds comes along, go along you will learn where the boundaries are and you will then be IN THE KNOW
