Shaldon family receive happy news from Japan!

Jane Mason’s weeks of anxious waiting are over as news has arrived from Japan that her family is safe following the recent earthquake and tsunami.
Her little grandson, just seven months old, was taken to safety from Sendai by Ra and Nakki, her son and daughter-in-law, They were living about thirty miles from the stricken prefecture of Fukushima and have now been evacuated from the devastation to the safety of Okinawa where they are staying with Nakki’s aunt until it is safe to return.
Jane has lived in Platway House in Shaldon for nearly twenty years and introduced her daughter-in-law Nakki to the local Heather and Gorse Clog Morris Dancers. They danced together many times in local folk festivals including Newton Abbot and Teignmouth.
Heather and Gorse Clog Morris dance every Wednesday at Combeinteignhead Village Hall in the winter months, and are seen regularly in the summer months at folk festivals and tourist venues. New dancers and musicians are made very welcome and will soon learn about this lovely English folk tradition in the same way that Nakki Mason has done.
