There was drama in Newton Abbot on Saturday night after 12 armed police officers swooped on a house in Linden Terrace following a report that a man might have a firearm.
The road was closed for about three hours and residents were told not to leave their homes throughout this time.
The response came after a report of a man in Torquay receiving death threats.
A 29-year-old man, who is not from the area, was arrested before being questioned at Torquay Police Station.
He has been bailed until February 15, 2010. No firearms were seen or recovered and enquiries are still continuing.
