The new Lidl discount supermarket, Newton Road, Kingsteignton, will open its doors to the public on November 5. Are people in favour of another supermarket opening in the area?

Personally I'm not thrilled. Just need a Morrisons and then we have the full set of supermarkets withing a 3 mile radious! Great.

I'm delighted that we are getting a Lidl. Hopefully it will regenerate the village, sorry I mean town, centre and we can get some more small shops nearby. the problem with Kingsteignton is that there was no parking near the fountain - the car park is quite a way away, so nobody ever goes there. This could change things.

I reckon 1 new supermarket = 3 new charity shops.so i agree with newton-hobbit that we might as well make room for Morrisons as well and then go for the title of charity shop capitol of uk..we must be nearly there now with the imminent opening of the massive heart foundation unit in Queen Street.
On the other hand i hear Lidl do cheap olive oil which has got to be good!!

ReportBring it on: on a good day, shopping at Lidl is like visiting a treasure trove of cut-price gastronomic delights. Avocados for 19p; pots of crayfish tails (perfect for pasta sauce); vine tomatoes, all far cheaper than you'll find them at T@£*€. And don't get me started on the chocolate…

ReportNot really a fan of Lidl - a bit cheap and nasty... I'll be sticking with good old J Sainsbury.

Drove past it and the car park seemed bursting with lots of people parking in Newton Road. Whilst competition for Tesco may be good I hope it doesn't affect the Express to the extent it closes and we lose our post office. I don't have much time for Tesco as the other branch can't be bothered to be associated with Kingsteignton and incorrectly gives its location as Newtown Inbits.

We nearly had lidls at the end of our road. Thank God the planners saw sense for once. We are in a close and Lidl's would have effectively trapped us in our homes. As for supermarkets, don't we have enough in the area? All they do is bring more traffic to Newton Abbot, which can barely cope with it now. having said that I was against Asda but have had to revise my opinion as the inflow of people does seem to be revitalising the town. Shame it didn't happen before we lost so many of out independent traders. I believe independent traders and supermarkets can trade together with co-operation on all sides. I really, really miss the hardware shops, chappells & monktons. None of the supermarkets stock the goods they used to. So many products are being lost because the supermarkets don't want the bother. And of course I believe them to be the very best products. Bring back Flash floor and wall cleaner in powder form!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
