Firstly, a big hand to Labour's Patrick Canavan who is contesting this election in Newton Abbot itself.
I’m Moira Macdonald, the Labour Candidate for Central Devon constituency.
If Newton Abbot readers are puzzled to see me here it’s because voters may not know that some nearby areas have been transferred into the newly formed Central Devon Constituency – namely voters in Ashburton, Buckfastleigh, Bovey, Chudleigh, Haytor, Kenn Valley, Moorland, Teignbridge North, and Teign Valley.
So this is a hello from me to anyone from those areas who enjoys visiting this website.
Labour is well-organized in the newly transfered areas through the friendly, campaigning East Devon Branch of the Central Devon Labour Party. If you’d like to get in touch with them and lend a hand with the election campiagn just let me know.

In Devon, politics is mostly a two-horse race between Tories and Lib Dems.
I’m some-one who believes that local government - parish, district and county - have more impact on our day-to-day lives than what goes on in London.
But local people need a champion at national level when local councillors aren’t getting things right
.
Although I’ve worked in the private sector I’ve also been employed by local government and now my various voluntary work roles mean I work alongside local government.
I understand how it works.
I also know how sometimes it just doesn’t seem to listen or understand.
What we need in Central Devon is some-one with local government experience but who is from a Party that isn’t part of the cosy two-horse race.
If you need a watch-dog, some-one not beholden to any local political diktats and deals, some-one who is an effective problem-sorter, who can work on your side and can call local politicians to account then please vote for me on 6th May. Thank you.
