August is nearly here – the height of the holiday season! What plans to Newtonians have over the next six or so weeks?
-
Decisions, decisions.
Thus far this summer the weather has been pretty good (for England that is). Whether it is good enough to tempt you to stay local is another story… especially hearing that the pound has hit a 19-month high against the Euro.
In fact the average family could save £700 on a Mediterranean break compared with 12 months ago. This is also aided by Brits able to take advantage of cut-price offers on many every day products because many European economies are struggling with the debt crisis.
Take a stroll along Courtenay Street and you’ll see Thomas Cook, First Choice and Bath Travel shops all vying for your business with posters and fliers of last minute offers and packages.
Just up the M5, Exeter Airport is preparing itself for its busiest six weeks of the summer period when an estimated 135,000 passengers using the airport.
Jamie Christon the airport’s Managing Director said: “Late bookings have really picked up since the recent spell of poor weather and the end of the World Cup, but there is still availability and bargains in August with prices starting at under £300 per person for 7 days.
“We have also seen dozens of people, who had planned to depart from other airports on Goldtrail holidays, rebooking with the major operators who have flights to Greece and Turkey from Exeter.
He added: “Our domestic flights with Flybe will keep us busy with passengers not only going out of the region but also into the South West and this is excellent news for the inbound tourism market.”
If you have no intention of flying this summer and are thinking domestic and daytrips then look no further than Greycars coaches.
The family run company, in Heathfield, has many excursions available, some local like Dartmoor and Bigbury, others further afield to Longleat Safari Park and London city breaks.
They also offer a holiday at home package – comprising of five days out in the South West from £50.
Please tell us about your experiences, or give hints and tips to fellow local travelers…
