Queen Street, Newton Abbot – always a poor relation to Courtenay Street

Courtenay Street seems to get no-end of local money and thought thrown at it to bring in the punters – yet just a few yards back down the high street Queen Street smacks of neglect.

Queen Street in Newton Abbot needs some work.
The Christmas lights illustrate this. While Courtenay Street has very pretty and imaginative lights, the Queen Street display looks to have come out of the 1970s box.
Come on Newton Abbot top brass, spend some money or thought on developing Queen Street!

I think if a few big name stores opened in Queen Street then that would improve it.

ReportI can't think of any major towns that are all pedestrianised. I don't think it works. Maybe for a tourist place but Newton Abbot is pretty functional.

ReportYou can't make the whole town pedestrianised it would never work. It just needs some better shops.

ReportI guess takeaways would suffer too without cars quickly stopping outside to pick up food.

Reportiam sure having queen st pedestrianised would help shoppers as its difficult walking on the narrow pavements, but what about the cars etc, business's unloading and loading, and which way would transport go that use queen st now. Iam sure someone could work out something that would benefit all.
