What are the places/attractions to visit in Newton Abbot over the summer? Here’s my ‘ten of the best’, feel free to agree or disagree and add to this list.

In no particular order…

Newton Abbot Racecourse

What better way of making the most of the summer sun than a day at the races! Follow Newton1855 posts to get all the latest news and events from the famous racecourse.

Stover Country Park

The oft-award winning country park has numerous walks to tackle and a wide variety of wildlife to sample. Check out some of the beautiful images of the area in the Newton Abbot people gallery.

The Old Cider Bar, East Street

Cider is perhaps the quintessential summer drink so what better place to enjoy a glass or two than at Newton Abbot’s oldest pub. Naturally they serve a wide variety of cider, some strong and some very, very strong!

Kingsteignton Swimming Pool

Too hot to do anything? Then pop around to the open-air pool in Kingsteignton. It’s very cheap and a great place to lounge around topping up your tan as well as perfecting your swimming stroke. Refreshments are available and the staff are very friendly.

House of Marbles

This lovely attraction is fascinating, friendly and most surprising of all FREE. Enjoy their museums of glass, games, pottery and of course marbles. There’s a lovely gift shop and coffee shop too (although obviously not free but great value nonetheless).

Hele Park

Their nine-hole, par 68, public course is ideal for beginners as well as offering enough challenges and quirks for the more experienced player.

In addition the centre has a top-notch driving range, a pro-shop full of the latest equipment and plenty of bargains, a variety a golf lesson packages available to meet all needs and a licensed bar and restaurant.

Tuckers Maltings

In the heart of Newton Abbot is Tuckers Maltings – the only Traditional Maltings in England that is open for guided tours. Their shop stocks a wide range of specialty bottled beers, some brewed from there own malt.

Newton Abbot Museum

Want to know more about the history of out town? 2010 is the year of the Sights and Sounds of Newton Abbot exhibition at Newton Abbot Museum.

Prickly Ball Farm

A great day out, especially for children. As well as seeing all the goings on in the famous hedgehog hospital, there are a variety of opportunities for children to interact with farm animals, including feeding and even goat racing!

Decoy Country Park

A park that comes alive in the summer with boating activities on the lake and children swarming in and around the large paddling pool. Like Stover there’s some great walks too.
