Saturday sees the Christmas lights switch-on in Newton Abbot – a sure sign that festive times and fun are now upon us.

And with that comes the annual Christmas party, the highlight of the working calendar for many.

If the responsibility of organising the office do has fallen to you, fear not, Newton Abbot has more than its fair share of options.

The Jolly Farmer has long been a favourite watering hole and music venue for the town and it also has a very inviting Christmas party menu.

Creamy bacon, spinach and mushroom tart topped with melted cheese and served with onion marmalade is a starter that certainly gets the mouth watering.

As well as the traditional turkey the Farmer serves Devonshire beef and also a vegetarian option, an asparagus risotto.

And for something sweet, Christmas pud, lemon and lime tart and a selection of cheese and biscuits.

With three courses costing £16.95, the Farmer will no doubt be a popular choice. Daytime and evening are available. Sole bookings are available for bookings of 60 people. A disco is available on weekends too.

Starting on November 29 the Coombe Cellars Christmas menu is offered for £19.95 per person.

The restaurant in Coombeinteignhead is known for the quality of its food and its festive offerings don’t disappoint.

They have five choices of mains including ribeye steak and baked salmon on croute. The desert options include Choux buns filled with vanilla ice cream and covered in a hot chocolate source. Sounds a bit yummy.

There can be few more cosy venues on a winter’s night than The Linny, in Coffinswell. And they have a three course menu for £17.95.

Jenny Hyde, of Kingskerswell, went to The Linny for a Christmas party last year and was suitable impressed.

“We all had a great night, lots of fun. The food was excellent and the staff were very attentive and friendly. I would defiantly recommend The Linny.”

The ever-popular Hare and Hounds on Torquay Road, offers two Christmas menu’s A (£19.95) and B (£23.95).

Menu B has no less than nine main course options!

Dainton Golf Club is also adept at putting on a Christmas party. They cater for gatherings from six to 90 people. As well as a delicious three course meal they have a disco available. Being very popular they have limited availably so it’s worth getting in contact with them quick.

If you have any recommendations of your own please share with others on this site. You might also want to post a review of a venue in our business section.

But why would you want to go somewhere with so little class?! Surely the Christmas party should be a treat? The Sloop has good deals, yes, and an outdoor pool table, great - it's a summer pub though, not for the winter and not for Christmas parties - in my humble opinion. Not saying it's not good quality food though - it is.

You've missed off the Sloop in these credit crunch times!

Was in there for a drink yesterday and think you can get three courses for about £11.99... Bet the portions will be massive too :-)
