Devon County Council Has A Cheek - Penn Inn Resurfacing at Newton Abbot

I've heard that the Penn Inn roundabout on the A380 at Newton Abbot is going to be dug up and resurfaced for two weeks from 18th October - causing chaos on the roads.

The County Council say that the work will take place overnight between 7pm - 7am for two weeks but that there could be delays. They are advising drivers to seek alternative routes to work.
I'm sorry but this is just the sort of news to make you sigh and despair. That road is bad enough when there aren't any roadworks - how does the County Council expect anyone who works in Exeter or elsewhere on the other side of Newton Abbot to realistically travel to and from. Does it really have to take two weeks to carry this out?
I have approached Torbay councillor Chris Lewis to find out why it has to take two weeks and what improvements motorists will notice. I will update this story when I hear back from him.
Just as the mornings are getting darker, they are now saying I have to get up earlier to avoid the traffic. Why spread it out over two weeks? Is it because the council isn't prepared to spend out on getting it done more quickly?
Does anyone actually know of an alternative route if you're commuting from Torbay to Exeter?
Does anyone agree with me that this is just going to cause more trouble than it's worth?

Good point! Why do they have to cause chaos just for the sake of probably meeting some targets.
