A plea for more support and donations from local residents has been issued by Kingsteignton Swimming Pool.

Last year, when attraction celebrated its 30th anniversary – it also ran at a deficit of nearly £30,000.

Although donations have been pledged by some, including Rydon and St Michael’s primary school’s and the Ugbrooke Environmental Trust, the expense of a new boiler is taking its toll.

Chairman of the swimming pool Maureen Cole said in a letter to the Mid-Devon Advertiser on Friday that more money is desperately needed.

She added that if the money can be raised then the new boiler will be fitted and the pool is expected to open for the summer on Saturday, May 8.

The next proposed fundraising date for the swimming pool will be a Street Market on the May Day bank holiday.

For further information or ideas on for fundraising events contact Maureen Cole on: 01626 211000.

It would be such shame to lose it. It's great to have an outdoor pool nearby in the summer. I would like to see maybe the council to help out here.

Whilst a donation has been made by Ugbrooke Environmental, a poster on the Kingsteignton Town Forum site noted that Newton Abbot had also received hefty donations from this source for the Courtenay Centre and Bakers Park and wondered whether that money should have been directed to Kingsteignton Swimming Pool. The poster pointed out that it is the residents of Kingsteignton who have to put up with the stench and heavy traffic from all over the county travelling to the Heathfield Farm (i.e. Heathfield Kingsteignton not Heathfield Bovey Tracey) landfill and composting sites.
