Lidle won't take credit cards

We have waiting months and months for Lidle. I for one even signed a petition in favour of having Lidle in Newton Abbot several years ago. Well there you go - at last it arrives, and very nice too, except that they don't accept Credit Cards. You have to pay by Debit Card. Not so in the Torquay branch I point out - 'no indeed ' I'm informed, but in the Kingsteignton store that is the rule. Is this legal? Doesn't this contravene competition legislation - one rule for one customer, and another for another customer? While there may not be a problem paying by Debit Card or Cash - I get Tesco points on all I spend, and I'm really miffed and not getting them for what I buy in Lidle - and yes before you ask, the guy at the checkout said that several trolly loads of purchases had been abandoned at the till because of this stupid rule. NOT A GOOD START LIDLE.

It seems a bit ridiculous that many small convenience shops except cards (albeit with a small charge) and a major supermarket chain doesn't! Come on Lidls, move with the times!

Reporttorquay is only of the only LIDL stores to accept credit cards in the UK, this is due to average customer spend and the amount of customers, all other LIDL stores in the district (bar torquay) do not accept credit cards. Torquay is LIDL UK's flagship store for the southern region and in the top 5 LIDL stores for the country this is why they have the ability to accept credit cards, if you need to use your credit card, travel the extra 8minutes car journey to get there and use your card. Kingsteignton branch isn't going to be accepting credit cards any time soon unfortunately

ReportWhen Lidl first opened in the UK, they used to ONLY take cash, and didn't accept ANY cards of any kind.
I don't agree with buying ANYTHING on credit (credit cards) anyway, so it doesn't bother me, and I find their deli selection is excellent.
As for the comment that it's "cheap and nasty", Donald... well that's a very toffee nosed comment isn't it. If you don't like what they sell, don't knock it, just don't go there. Maybe Harrods should open in N/Abbot just for you?

ReportTrago used to do my head in not taking plastic. Surely life should be made as easy for the customer as possible??
