If you’re not going to vote this term because none of the parties reflect your views – this new approach to local politics might just interest you.

Perhaps the ultimate implementation of a democracy is being suggested by an independent candidate in Hackney, East London.

36–year-old Denny de la Haye says that if elected he will vote in parliament however the people in his constituency tell him to!

On his website Get A Vote Mr Haye champions what he calls Direct Digital Democracy.

He explains: “For each vote coming up in Parliament, I will put a poll on this website. Every voter living in Hackney South and Shoreditch will have a login for the site, and will be able to vote in the polls using their computer or mobile phone.

“Whatever the majority vote is, I will vote that way.”

What do you think? Would such a system encourage you to vote if you’ve previously not bothered?

Most of all, what do you think would change in Newton Abbot if every vote in parliament was decided not by the party whip or the conscience of the MP but by Newtonians?

I'm not sure. The people as a group can be quite uneducated and too easily get on a bandwagon.

Excellent idea, the people do need to have more say in what is going on locally and nationally. Something I would consider doing myself!
