A major new play trail development will be opened at Abbotskerswell Primary School today February 9.
The new play trial will be used by both pupils and the wider community. It has been funded with lottery cash, the school’s PTFA and the local Lions Club.
The trail includes a clatter bridge with handrails, swinging log steps, a vine walk, a springy plank, rubber log posts, a ring swing and music panels including bongos, a chime panel and xylophone.
A safe surface has been provided which will have a natural look when the grass seeds germinate.
The school council made decisions on the design of the project to meet the needs of the children who will use it.
Headteacher Viv Clare said: “We have carefully chosen apparatus that is different and offers activities not already available in the community.
“It will provide challenges across all age ranges from toddlers to age 11. It has features that will encourage different aged children to play together.
“The children in school will use the play trail during their lunch and break times and as part of their physical development activities.”
The local pre-school are being invited to use it whenever it suits them and the wider community will be invited to special Picnic and Play days during the holidays.
Mrs Clare said:”This tremendous new project will further develop the children’s health and fitness.
“It has improved the outdoor environment of the school and will benefit all who use it.
“We are absolutely delighted that we have secured funding of over £9,300 from Awards for All ‘The Big Lottery Fund’ as well as financial support from Abbotskerswell PTFA and the local Lions Club to enable this exciting project to take place.
“A huge thanks to everyone who has made this possible and in particular to Lara Brewer from the PTFA who has led on this stunning project.”
