Nikki Toms, the Sports Development officer at Teignbridge Council is a winner in the national Council Worker of the Year awards.Nikki picked up the trophy, after gaining the public vote, in the Working With Young People category, for her dedicated work making the popular Decoy BMX and Skate Bowl possible for young people.Nikki Toms told the People's Republic of South Devon: “Winning this award is a huge honour, and is testament to what can be achieved by working together with young people to support their ideas. I’d like to thank everyone who took the time to vote for me, their support was absolutely vital to the result and I wouldn’t be celebrating without them.“Helping make the skate bowl happen was a long, hard fought process, but the results have really made every second worth it. To look at it now and see young people enjoying it during its first summer is fantastic. Now I’m looking forward to continuing my work with community groups and young people to help them develop sporting facilities across Teignbridge.“There’ll be no time for rest following this award, as this weekend I’ll be helping to organise Team Teignbridge for the Devon Games To Inspire in Barnstaple. From there we’ll move on to our busy programme of summer activities, including our popular sports development camps. It’s going to be a really busy year, but this award has given me an extra boost to help me on my way!”Teignbridge has been picking up plenty of gongs what with the prestigious MJ award for the council's asset management, and it was voted 14th happiest place in the world to live.
