Premier Inn plans for Newton Abbot Racecourse

Plans for a large hotel and family restaurant at Newton Abbot Racecourse have been unveiled.

A 60-bedroom Premier Inn has been proposed.

The proposals – which have been formally lodged with Teignbridge Council – are for a 60-bedroom Premier Inn and a 220 seater Beefeater.

It’s been reported that the development could lead to more than 60 jobs.

Newton Abbot Races Ltd and Whitbread PLC are behind the proposals which will be on land currently used as a car park at the racecourse.

The plans also include staff accommodation and associated car parking, access and landscaping.

Vehicle will have access to the facility from the main gate – off the Tesco roundabout.

The proposals are part of the racecourse’s plans to become a facility throughout the whole year.

Excellent news. it's always good to have good quality, reliable and good value accommodation. As you say Gloster, if you live outside the area, it's handy, and as lots of people probably use the racecourse it'll attract people and encourage them to stay. I know it's not really in Newton Abbot but it's clsoe. Obviously, the increased pressure on the roads while they're building it isn't ideal though - will there be a commitment to try to do a lot of work by night, I wonder?

I have no problem with it. It's out of Newton Abbot town centre so it's not really going to be an eyesore for us. Plus we may also get a visit from Lenny Henry!

From someone who live outside the area (Cheltenham in Gloucestershire) and who ideally would like to visit my brothers family who lives in the centre of Newton Abbot. I for one welcome the excellent news that Premier Inn is to build within the grounds of Newton Abbot races.
Hopefully, with the additional competition to the area, prices will become even more competitive to enable the likes of my family to afford to stay on long weekends on a regular basis.

It's not in Newton Abbot at all but on the Kingsteignton/Teigngrace boundary. Check the boundary stone outside the misnamed racecourse or familiarise yourselves with an ordnance survey map.
With suggestions being made that parts of the racecourse be allowed to flood to alleviate flooding along the Teign Estuary, one wonders whether this is the best site for such an inn, not to mention the current traffic gridlock which will only get worse with all the development they plan to dump on Kingsteignton.
