Why Spoil Newton Abbot
By highaccess | Wednesday, April 07, 2010, 21:08
I lived in Newton Abbot for many years before I moved to Scotland I married my late wife who was from Newton Abbot. We loved the shops there so why spoil a real old Devon Market town to please others. The old shops are the best. Lets keep my old home town the same. Keep the market. Keep the old shops and keep Newton Abbot as it is now.

Agree with you grumpy woman. Especially about Queen Street, it's a bit of a ghost area.

ReportGood on you grumpywoman1 I don't know you but I agree with entirely. I don't know the Town centre manager as I now live in Scotland but my home is still Newton Abbot. GOOD LUCK with any campaign if any to Not Spoil Newton Abbot.

ReportHear, hear. If the council want to carry out so called improvements to newton Abbot why don't they ask the people who live here. Why employ an expensive consultancy firm who a) will make money out of any redevelopment and b) want to make every town in the country identical. Plymouth is a classic point it has had nearly all its uniqueness developed out of it. Exeter is fast going the same way. Leave our town alone and leave our cattle market alone. Any spare cash burning a hole in the councils pocket could go into sprucing up the lower half of the much forgotten Queen Street. As for these named stores who want to bring their 'warehouse' stores to Newton, Kingsteignton already has 'warehouse' stores, we don't need any more. As for the tree supposedly blocking Newton Walk ?????????????? Are they implying everyone, including visitors are both blind and stupid? I am deeply worried by the attitude of our town centre manager and what her objectives are, up until now I thought she was doing a good job but now I'm wondering......................
