URGENT: Kingskerswell scheme, Bypass to join Newton Abbot to Torquay and Paignton
By INLUMINO | Thursday, July 09, 2009, 00:14
£123m for bypass, don't worry council only paying 10%.
The bypass that will join Newton Abbot to Torquay and Paignton is believed to be just what is needed to kick-start Torquay's economy.
Ian Handford, chairman of a group which supports a bypass, said the
last traffic census showed 35,000 vehicles went through Kingskerswell
every day, and those of you who have experienced it know that it can at times be infuriating.
What will happen to Kingskerwell? Concerns for Kingskerwell's future are being expressed by two groups who both oppose the bypass. Gerneral concerns that local businesses will suffer terrible loses and earn itself possible ghost town status. The Kingskerswell Alliance, which opposes the scheme, has said
it wants a more sustainable and environmentally-friendly solution to
the traffic problems.
It does seem that the bypass will go ahead with 11 compulsary purchase orders for properties have been issued since last October, with another 85 landowners being told that they might lose part of their land.
The public inquiry, which began on
Tuesday, is being held at the Passage House Hotel in Kingsteignton. It
is expected to last for 12 days. So it is not too late to have a voice in the matter.
Is this project a waste of money?
Will the bypass affect you in anyway?
What about Kingskerwell?
Any thoughts at all, please post before its too late.

ReportApart from going to the petrol station - does anybody stop at the Kingskerswell shops now anyway? There is very rarely anywhere to park. Perhaps the bypass will mean that Kingskerswell will become an altogether nicer village to visit and live in. It's really rather pretty when you venture beyond the A380.

ReportI think this would be a great thing for relieving traffic in Kingskerwell. Kingskerwell will of course get less passing custom.
Good news for us though, apologies to those of you who might have lost land and/or houses.
