Vote for Newton Abbot’s Carrie Spencer for Miss Universe GB

Abbotskerswell’s Carrie Spencer has been selected for the Miss Universe GB finals in May.

The 25-year-old has fought off tough competition around the country to be named as one of 50 finalists at The International Convention Centre, Birmingham, on May 2. She now needs your support!

Carrie told Newton Abbot people: ‘Let’s see a born and bred Newton girl in the  Miss Universe final and let’s put Newton Abbot on the map.’

On her Miss World biog, Carrie wrote:

"I grew up in a small village and had a quaint and loving childhood. I was a popular teenager and ran in the school cross-country team and excelled in drama studies. I wasn't sure what direction I wanted to go in until fate stepped in and turned my world upside down.

"My dad had suffered with diabetes since his teens but eight years ago his heart failed and he died. I suffered terribly without my dad but it opened something in me. I dealt with my grief through putting pen to paper, which resulted in being published in America.

"Even more than when he was alive, I wanted to make my dad proud. I am now studying to be a bereavement councillor to help those who were in the same situation as me. I am also achieving a lot of my dreams and goals and managed to sky dive and bungee jump for charity.

"I battled Chronic Fatigue Syndrome for two years and am now back stronger than ever and feel I have the heart, passion and life experience to do well in Miss Universe GB and am looking forward to fundraising for The Joshua Foundation regardless of the competition outcome."

- Miss Universe GB 2010 is a national beauty pageant open to girls aged between 18-26 from England, Scotland and Wales.

The winner of the Miss Universe GB competition will go on to represent Great Britain on the World stage at the international Miss Universe, alongside over 100 girls from countries around the Globe.

The Miss Universe pageant is owned by American tycoon Donald Trump and the winner will receive an apartment in New York during their reign and will work for Mr Trump himself.
