Local police have a scheme called Speed Watch that they say “empowers and involves entire communities in the quest to drive down the speeds of vehicles in limits of 40mph and below.”

So if you believe a particular stretch of road in Newton Abbot is highly dangerous due to speeding vehicles then contact your local neighbourhood team who can potentially set-up a Speed Watch to address the problem.

How Speed Watch works:

Local volunteers are trained by the police and can then operate Community Speed Watch at agreed sites in their neighbourhood.

A register of vehicles exceeding the posted speed limit is kept and entered onto a database held by the police.

Speeding drivers are sent warning letters and persistent offenders are targeted by the police for prosecution.

Speeding in Newton Abbot is an issue that frequently pops up on this site. Wolborough Street especially is often cited as having speeding problems.

What other strips of roads do you feel would benefit from such a scheme?

There are currently 66 active Speed Watch sites across Devon and Cornwall with more than 180 volunteers currently trained and 100 waiting for training.

For further information or if you want information about becoming a police volunteer visit: Speed Watch.

Many roads in Kingsteignton suffer from speeding problems. Most roads in Newton Abbot are too busy for there to be speeding issues.

Good shout Big Steve. My friend works at Sibelco and there are actually a lot of recorded accidents there but apparently the police still refuse to implement speeding restrictions.

Parts of the Old Newton Road are very dangerous. It's not a residential area I know but cars race along far too fast. In the winter with all the ice about there's always problems.
