I rescued this Peacock (I think) butterfly from my cat. It was inside my flat on the 4th December 2011. Lovely as it is, surely, this isn't right?

Yes that is a Peacock. They can often be found hibernating over winter in sheltered spaces. The mild weather means there are more about too. Glad you rescued it!
