The Newton Abbot housing market

Are prices rising or on the fall in Newton Abbot? Which areas are the cheapest and most expensive? How much is my house worth?

Take the website home.co.uk for example. This tells you the average Asking Prices, Selling Prices and the Time on the market for properties in an area. And the site shows house prices have not changed a great deal in this town over the past two years.

Typing in Newton Abbot shows that the town’s average asking price for a property (all types) this year is £217,875 – about £3,000 more than in 2009.

The average selling price though in 2010 is £167,273! Quite a drop then! The average selling price in 2009 was £163,606.   

From the website we can see that property prices were at their peak in Newton Abbot in 2007. Then a property would go for an average price of £189.849. The following year the selling prices dropped dramatically to £153,437.

How do nearby areas compare to Newton Abbot?

Some maybe surprised to know that the average selling price for a property in Kingsteignton is £183,426 – about £15,000 more than in Newton Abbot.

Kingskerswell’s average selling price for a property is a lot higher at £239,750. Bovey Tracey has an average price of £273,750.  

FindaProperty.com is a website that holds historical detail on a street-by-street level so you can get a good idea of the value of your house.

I found that a semi-detached property in Richmond Hill, Kingskerswell (my abode) sold for £66,950 in 1999! Now a semi-detached home in the same street is likely to go for about £180,000.
