Saffron Contemporary Indian Cuisine

Here we have another decent Indian Restaurant in Newton Abbot located on Queen Street. Saffron is a large curry house that offers a fine range authentic cuisine at a fair price and delicious taste. Offers include the Sunday all you can eat buffet from £8.85 and the Tuesday banquet night ranging from just under a tenner.

Avoid at all costs...go to NAZ or KFC

My regular Naz indian was not open on Sunday lunch so we went to Safron instead. We ordered by phone for collection at lunchtime Sunday.
They had 2hrs but still they waited till we arrived before starting so we had to wait 20 mins. They over charged us by £1. The food was ugly and watery tasting. We spent £20 but threw it away as it wasnt worth eating. They forgot the rice and then denied we ordered it. The owner / manager was a rude ignorant pig of a man. Avoid at all costs as its always emty for good reason, go to NAZ which is always excellent!

Saffron vs the others in newton Abbot

We get to stay in Newton Abbot once in a while and when we do we always try a different restaurant (that's one thing about the town - the large number of eating places).
Last time we tried the Eastern Eye Indian Restaurant. This time we tried the Saffron. Although both restaurants take a lot of pride in their front of house appearance, we felt the Saffron has the edge. What swayed it was the food - surely the main reason why you go out and eat in the first place.
We must honestly say the food is the best Indian food we have tasted in a long while (and a whole load better than our usual haunts in South London). We had four courses, papadams, prawn cocktail, salmon tikka and onion bahjees, with main dishes including chicken, lamb and salmon. Plus the old favourite of lemon sorbet for dessert. All this and a few pints of Carlsberg came to a very resonable £48. Which was less than the Eastern Eye charged for a similar but smaller feast last time (and before VAT hit 20%).
If you're in town and have the craving for an Indian, try the Saffron. You'll enjoy the surroundings, the service and most importantly, the food.
