I went there last week and was pleasantly surprised with the food seeing as it’s so cheap. Bangers and Mash for just 3.99 and it was pretty tasty.

I have been to the sloop a couple of times, i found the staff very unhelpful and grumpy. Thefood quality was very poor, my mashed potato had some kind of skin on it?? I understand its a cheap place to go but its certainly not cheerful.

The portions are large and it is cheap but the food is foul! The steak are very poor cuts and no where near fresh or locally sourced! I gave them the benefit of the doubt and they were just as bad on my return with the burger having a distinct off taste and pink in the middle and my partners microwaved lasagne was overcooked which is quite a skill! All in all just spend a couple of pound more and get some good edible food just down the road at hare and hound or barn owl!
This building has been through more renovations and name changes than I can remember but now it seems very settled in being a very popular, and good-value pub. It certainly gives the Hare and Hands a run for its money it the Newton Road eating bragging rights!
I have always been put off this pub, partly because I associate it with traffic jams on the way to work, and looking at it and thinking it's not my cup of tea, but also, I hate the name! Well, my friends, don't let this put you off. The Sloop does great food with some fabulous offers - it's a Hungry Horse pub. Christmas menus might be worth a look.
Great value food which is very tasty too. Try the Megasaurous Steak - It's as big as it sounds. The drinks are also some of the cheapest about.
