This weekend, Newton Abbot is due to play host to an exciting sevens and ten-a-side tournament at the grounds at Rackerhayes. Eight teams in total are entered in the sevens section, with another four taking part in the veterans.

Organisers are hoping that, going forward, this will become an annual event for Newton Abbot. If it is a success, the tournament will replace the existing one-day sevens competition that has traditionally been held at the beginning of May.

The action packed two day event, sees teams travelling from as far away as Hampshire to take part in the competition. Play kicks off at 10am on Saturday, and is followed by a strict 1.30 cut off to allow time for players and supporters to gather round the clubhouse big screen to watch the much hyped Lions game against South Africa.

The competition will resume once more at 10.30 on Sunday and is planned to go on into the afternoon.

Non club members are welcomed on the touchline, so be sure to pop down and offer the players your support.

Much as I love rugby, and want to support all the local NA events, nothing is going to stop me from watching Muzza vs Fed - it's going to be a cracker.
