Serious vehicle collision on the A38 Chudleigh this morning

The A38 has been closed at Chudleigh following a serious vehicle collision this morning (September 21).

Police say that a van left the road just before the Chudleigh turn-off at about 9.30am. An occupant of the vehicle has sustained serious injuries.

The road is closed and emergency services are at the scene.

No further details are available at present.

    Update from police at 4pm:

    The male occupant of the van was pronounced dead at the scene. He is a 41-year-old man from the Essex area.

    His next-of-kin have been informed.

    The Plymouth-bound carriageway of the A38 remains closed from Splatford Split to allow collision investigators to examine the scene.

    The deceased was driving a green Citroen van at the time of the incident.
